Olivia Joret studied Visual Arts and Contemporary Critical Theory at Goldmiths College, London, UK and Painting at Sint-Lucas Hogeschool, Brussels, BE. She is currently finishing a Master in Philosophy Art and Critical Theory in the division of Literary, Visual and Musical Thought at the European Graduate School, Saas-Fee, CH and Valetta, MA.
Her work draws on a tension between an aesthetics of erasure, aiming to neutralize or blur the cultural denominations which shape everyday contexts and relationships, and on the other hand a good-humored need for (self)relativization. When the former gives rise to conceptual works taking the form of performances or happenings ; the latter allows for an indulgence in the plasticity of painting.
Joret lives and works in Brussels, Belgium.
